FORT HALL The Environmental Waste Program along with the Solid Waste department worked jointly from August to September making the reservation a cleaner place.
Removal and cleanup of 16 abandoned trailers that were located throughout the reservation with the exception of none in the Ross Fork district. The selected trailers were considered eyesores or hazardous by neighbors. In addition, workers also had the time to clean the interior of the Lincoln Creek Boarding School making room for a possible future restoration project.
“It’s possible that more could have been done,” said Monica DelValle, Program Manager of Solid Waste.
But due to leftover remnants contained in some of the trailers there wasn’t enough time due to the allotted time frame of two months.
Plans to continue this project next summer are in the works since it received such a positive response from the community. Only next time DelValle assures that more of an advanced notice will be given to the public.
DelValle would like to thank the staff that participated in the project for their hard work and efficiency she says without them the end result wouldn’t have been possible.
Continued efforts were put forth on maintaining the tidiness of the reservation, as a group called the Townsite Cleanup Committee hosted a Cleanup Day on October 13.
