Communities in 44 States, 2 Territories and 3 Tribal Nations Share $69.9 Million in Brownfields Grants
These communities will share $69.9 million in EPA Brownfields grants to help revitalize former industrial and commercial sites, turning them from problem properties to productive community use. Since the beginning of the Brownfields program, EPA has awarded 883 assessment grants totaling $225.4 million, 202 revolving loan fund grants totaling $186.7 million, and 238 cleanup grants totaling $42.7 million. Senate Report 107-002 - BROWNFIELDS REVITALIZATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION ACT OF 2001
Section 301 adds a new CERCLA section 129, authorizing EPA to provide funding to States and Indian tribes to establish and enhance State programs when the State's or tribe's program meets certain elements, they are making reasonable progress toward meeting the elements, or they have entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with EPA. The bill authorizes $50,000,000 to be appropriated for each of fiscal years 2002-2006 to carry out these provisions. |
