Garlic has become famous as a treatment for mildly elevated cholesterol. Nearly every pharmacy, supermarket, and health food store sells garlic preparations advertised for this purpose.

The enthusiasm is based on a collection of double-blind studies that, when put together, find that garlic can lower total cholesterol levels by about 9 to 12%. However, new studies have cast doubt on whether garlic really works at all.

A negative study on garlic was recently published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. This well-designed double-blind placebo-controlled trial followed 50 individuals with high cholesterol. Half of the participants received 900 mg daily of a standardized garlic extract for 12 weeks. The results showed no significant difference between the treated and placebo groups. Other studies with negative results were reported in 1995, 1996, and 1998; they enrolled a total of about 175 individuals.

Based on these four studies, serious questions have surfaced regarding using garlic to reduce cholesterol.

Older Studies Found Benefits
There are numerous HGH products accessible this days. Although they come in various type, they usually are planned for the same targets: weight loss, increasing energy, improving skin quality, increasing lean muscle, improving sexual drive and anti-aging.

Looking back, older studies provide impressive evidence for garlic. One relatively well-designed, double-blind placebo-controlled study followed 261 patients at 30 medical centers who were given either 800 mg of standardized garlic daily or placebo. Over 16 weeks, patients in the treated group experienced a 12% drop in total cholesterol and a 17% decrease in triglyceride levels; these results were significantly better than the placebo group. This study enrolled more participants than any of the negative studies.

Another well-designed study compared garlic to the standard cholesterol-lowering drug bezafibrate, and found them equally effective. Dozens of other studies have also found positive benefits.

Why are there contradictory studies? Can garlic treat high cholesterol or not?

The Power of Diet

A close look at all the negative studies shows there is one feature in common: the researchers put all participants on a heart-healthy diet.

A heart-healthy diet, which is low in saturated fat and high in healthy foods, is well-known to lower cholesterol quite effectively by itself. This type of diet typically achieves an 8 to 10% reduction in total cholesterol, making it about as powerful as garlic (according to the positive studies).

Therefore, it is perfectly possible that any benefit in the negative studies due to garlic was hidden behind the benefits of a healthy diet. To put it another way, if you eat a cholesterol-lowering diet, taking garlic may not provide much additional benefit. On the other hand, if you don’t eat the way you should, garlic may be very helpful.

Other Possible Heart Healthy Benefits of Garlic

Keep in mind that garlic may benefit the heart in other ways. It seems to help many factors at once, including reducing blood pressure, protecting against free radicals, and slowing blood coagulation. The combined effects appear to be positive. One double-blind placebo-controlled study that followed 152 individuals for 4 years found that garlic significantly reduced the development of atherosclerosis.

Putting all this information together, it does seem that garlic can be helpful in preventing heart disease, strokes, and other consequences of atherosclerosis.

How to Use Garlic

The usual dose of garlic is 300 mg three times daily of an extract standardized to contain 1.3% alliin. Aged garlic extracts (which contain no alliin) at a dose of 1 to 7.2 g daily may be effective as well.

Warning: Garlic presents certain health risks because it thins the blood. See the Garlic Encyclopedia entry for more information.

HGH pills for growth hormone therapy: HGH pills have existed for over twenty years, gaining popularity as a safe way to restore HGH levels for the replacement of growth hormones.

Here we can understand how HGH pills are used and what their effects are, as well as how HGH pills are superior to similar fast acting HGH supplements. The pituitary gland, which is located in the center of our brain, uses pulses to secrete these amino acids that are linked in a certain sequence. Balanced HGH levels are vital to peak performance, and HGH pills ensure that your body is primed to meet the demands met by naturally occurring growth hormone – including tissue repair, muscle growth, healing, brain functions, physical and mental wellness, bone strength, energy, and metabolism. Teenagers do not need HGH supplements like HGH pills because the body produces what it needs, as HGH production is the highest during puberty; adults on the other hand, need HGH supplements because the pituitary gland produces less and less HGH as we age and our body does not get enough to support our everyday needs. As you age, HGH levels drop, and it is necessary to restore balanced levels because these are vital for optimal health and to prevent signs of growing old. This is the point where HGH pills come in handy by smoothing the transition from low to controlled, safe, and effective maintenance of HGH levels, in particular for people with common age-related problems as well as children with stunted growth, body builders who want to beef up, recovering patients of serious injuries (HGH pills and injections speed up healing, but pills are cheaper in the long run), etc.

HGH pills as opposed to HGH injections: quick summary of HGH, supplement characteristics, benefits and restrictions to their use: For many years, human growth hormones have been under investigation, and in 1986 Eli Lily had a breakthrough when he succeeded in producing a new-age miracle cure for a supplement that can stimulate hormones to counteract the effects of growing old. Eli discovered the answer when he found the perfect counterpart of the amino acid hormone which is identical to human growth hormone though biosynthetic by nature. Ever since then it has been thoroughly studied and used by athletes, children with growth issues, and adults with growth hormone deficiencies.

Many people who choose to proceed with HGH therapy are told by their doctors to consider prescription HGH – daily injections that are required for this kind of biosynthetic hormone treatment. Although the pills give good results quickly, they can cost over $11,000, a large amount for a single year of treatment, and there are side-effects, including cardiovascular ones. The HGH pills, powders, and spray supplements are a safer, smarter pick for persons who required a weaker, smaller dose of HGH. These HGH pills and supplements are over-the-counter, contain a balanced mix of essential amino acids, and come at a cheaper price compared to injections, while exhibiting slower but sure results over 4-7 months without the side effects.
